Data Duty: Palantir Fortifies Army Partnership
Palantir turns intelligence into dollars, courtesy of the U.S. Army. Palantir Technologies ($PLTR) gained almost 4% on Thursday after extending a U.S. Army contract valued at up to $618.9 million. The analytics software provider has partnered with a program named Army Vantage since 2018, equipping the Army with "data and artificial intelligence to more effectively perform essential missions and enable faster decision-making across the force." More than 100,000 users rely on Palantir's platform, a record number reached this year.

Its stock surged over 300% year-to-date and is set to join the Nasdaq-100 next Monday.
Initial Army Vantage contract had a baseline value of $400.7 million

U.S. Presses Nvidia to Trace AI Chips’ Path to China
The U.S. is asking: ‘How did these chips escape?’—Nvidia is running the trace. The U.S. Commerce Department has asked Nvidia ($NVDA) to investigate how its AI chips ended up in China. According to The Information, Nvidia has turned to distributors like Super Micro ($SMCI) and Dell ($DELL) for spot checks of customers in Southeast Asia. Reports suggest that some resellers duplicated serial numbers or tampered with server records to slip shipments through restrictions. Nvidia, Dell, and Super Micro say they follow export rules and take action against violations.

This month, the U.S. restricted export rules for 140 companies.
Chinese universities and research institutes reportedly procured Nvidia chips through resellers.

FedEx’s Freight Unit Takes the Wheel
When in doubt, spin it out—FedEx’s freight business goes solo. FedEx ($FDX) will spin off its freight trucking unit, a move analysts say could unlock up to $20 billion in value. Shares jumped 8% after hours, adding $5 billion in market cap. With separating freight, FedEx aims to focus on merging its Express and Ground units, improving profitability. Freight posted an 11% revenue drop to $2.17 billion in Q2. The company also cut its full-year profit outlook, citing tough conditions and the loss of a USPS contract. Still, Q2 earnings beat estimates.

The separation may allow it to be valued more like its standalone rivals.
December shipping volumes exceeded forecasts after Cyber Monday.
